RS members flag concern over junk food, senior citizens

Members in the Rajya Sabha expressed concern over several problems gripping the country like popularity of junk food and plight of labourers.

New Delhi: Members in the Rajya Sabha on Monday expressed concern over several problems gripping the country like growing popularity of junk food which is causing health hazard and plight of labourers and demanded the government to take corrective steps.

Through Special Mentions, Ram Prakash (Cong) voiced concern over growing popularity of junk food particularly in the metros and sought strong laws to maintain the permitted quantity of salts in junk food manufactured by various food companies.

Vasanthi Stanley (Cong) demanded checking crimes against mentally ill women and steps for their rehabilitation.

Ram Vilas Paswan (LJP) asked the government to pay old age pension to men and women of 55 years and 50 years respectively and revise the pension amount periodically.

KP Ramalingam (AIADMK) demanded inquiry into repeated fire accidents in the Mettur Thermal power station in Tamil Nadu.
Gundu Sudharani (TDP) sought withdrawal of central order to reduce quota of kerosene oil in Andhra Pradesh.
Ramkripal Yadav (RJD) sought teaching of Urdu in over 1,000 central schools across the country.
