New Delhi: In the wake of BJP's humiliating defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday met with the Sangh top brass and discussed the reasons behind the saffron party's debacle.
Bhagwat met top Sangh leaders at the 'Keshav Kunj' office of the RSS in Jhandewalan with Suresh Bhayyaji Joshi, the RSS second-in-command, its joint general secretaries Suresh Soni, Dattareya Hosbole and Krishan Gopal, who acts as the link between RSS and BJP, among those present during the discussions.
Sources said that during the meeting, held as part of a monthly exercise, Bhagwat discussed, among other issues, the reasons why BJP, which had received support from RSS, suffered such a heavy loss in Delhi.
"It is a routine monthly exercise where top RSS leaders meet and discuss important events in the country and also review the Sangh's activities," a top RSS leader told PTI.
The RSS brass is learnt to have discussed in detail the reasons behind BJP's drubbing at the hands of AAP and mulled the corrective measures to be taken to recover lost ground.
The massive defeat in Delhi, that came within nine months of its stunning victory in Lok Sabha polls, when the party had bagged all seven seats here, came as a shocker to many in BJP and RSS.
RSS had provided infrastructural support to BJP at the grassroots level by way of manpower for reaching out to voters. Delhi state RSS prachar pramukh, Rajiv Tuli, later said that the meeting was routine and BJP's defeat in Delhi polls was not on the agenda.
Sources add that a joint meeting of senior RSS and BJP leaders is also likely to take place later this weekend to assess the loss and review the steps to be taken to bounce back.
