New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday
dismissed the petition of former RJD MP Mohd Shahbuddin
seeking bail in a kidnapping case registered against him in
2004.
A Bench comprising Justices H S Bedi and C K Prasad
declined to give any relief to Shahbuddin who is lodged in
Siwan jail in Bihar.
"We are not inclined to grant bail," the Bench said
against the plea of the former MP from Siwan who is facing
trial in dozen of cases ranging from murder, attempt to murder
and kidnapping for ransom.
Senior advocate P S Patwalia and Ranjan Kumar Pandey
had contended that there was conflicting statement of the
complainant in the case.
They said the case of kidnapping was registered in
2004 and the chargesheet was filed in 2009.
However, the Bench rejected their plea and said "we
also watch television and we also read newspapers".
