New Delhi: Unhappy with the work done by private firms, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Tuesday decided to constitute a special task force for lifting garbage from dumps within its areas.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the SDMC.

A special task force will soon be constituted in this regard and by next week the plan will be ready, SDMC Public Relations Officer Mukesh Yadav said.

The special task force will ensure `zero garbage` at its dumps, Standing Committee Chairman Satish Upadhayay said.

"We will also include more auto-tippers for lifting garbage," he said.

SDMC has a total of four zones under its jurisdiction and the number of dumps in the respective zones are -- West Zone (120), Najafgarh (41), Central Zone (181) and South Zone (235).

Upadhayay said private firms were not performing their work properly, denting the image of the corporation.
"We will also impose heavy penalty on the private firms for their non-performance," he added.
