Shah condoles demise of Mahant Avaidyanath

BJP President Amit Shah on Saturday condoled the demise of former MP and head seer of Gorakhpeeth Mahant Avaidyanath, who died last night in Gorakhpur.

New Delhi: BJP President Amit Shah on Saturday condoled the demise of former MP and head seer of Gorakhpeeth Mahant Avaidyanath, who died last night in Gorakhpur.

"I convey my deep condolences on demise of the Head Seer of Gorakhpeeth & Former MP Pujya Awaidhyanath Ji. Om Shanti, Om Shanti," Shah tweeted after his death.

In his condolence message, Shah said "Mahant Avaidyanath will be remembered for being a protector of spirituality, human values, Indian culture and Sanatan Dharam. He has also played an important role in the spread of BJP ideology. His inspirational thoughts will continue to guide one and all."

Former Gorakhpur MP Mahant Avaidyanath, who had been in the forefront of the movement for Ram Temple in Ayodhya, died in Gorakhpur last night after prolonged illness.

He was 95.

Avaidyanath, also a former MLA, had been ailing for the past few months and was admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon. He was brought back here this evening.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi while condoling his death had said, "he will be remembered for his patriotic zeal and determined efforts to serve society."
