Sheila Dikshit directs DTU to find solution in two days

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit tonight directed the board of management of Delhi Technical University to find an amicable solution to the ongoing crisis in the institute within two days.

New Delhi: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit
tonight directed the board of management of Delhi Technical
University to find an amicable solution to the ongoing crisis
in the institute within two days.

The university is on the boil for nearly a fortnight over
its new found state university status.

At a high-level meeting, Dikshit asked Vice-Chancellor of
the university, P B Sharma, to find an amicable solution to
the crisis. The meeting was attended by chief secretary Rakesh
Mehta and other top officials of the Education department.

Students at the institute are protesting the new status
of Delhi Engineering College as a state university with the
name Delhi Technical University.

The protests entered the 14th day today with nearly 2,900
students even boycotting the exams.

The issue was also raised in the Delhi Assembly by leader
of opposition V K Malhotra who accused the government of
"jeopardising the future of hundreds of students."

"The issue is very serious and government is to be blamed
for it. Over 2,900 students have boycotted the examination,"
he said.

A meeting called by the University Vice-Chancellor
yesterday had ended without any compromise as the students
stuck to their stand of negotiating only with the Delhi
government, which passed the DTU Bill.
