Sheila wants speeding up of road, flyover projects

Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday asked all agencies concerned to JNNURM to speed up work on road, flyover and foot-over-bridge projects.

New Delhi: Unhappy over slow progress in
implementation of projects approved under Jawaharlal Nehru
National Urban Renewal Mission, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit
today asked all agencies concerned to speed up work on road,
flyover and foot-over-bridge projects.

At a high-level meeting to review JNNURM projects,
Dikshit expressed unhappiness over slow pace of work on
sanctioned projects by MCD saying that despite releasing
adequate funds the agency has "failed" to complete them.

The meeting also approved several key road infrastructure
projects like flyovers and roads. However, sources said the
meeting also rejected certain proposals on construction of new
foot-over-bridges.

The government has constructed over 50 foot over-bridges
in the last one and half year across the city and planned to
build another 25 such bridges.

Officials said plans for a few foot-over-bridges have been
rejected by the meeting.

Criticising MCD for poor maintenance of roads, she cited
the example of the F1 track in Greater Noida built by a
private developer and wondered why the civic agency could not
ensure proper maintenance of the roads.
