New Delhi: The decomposed body of a 60-year-old woman was found stuffed inside a box below her double bed in north east area of Delhi.
According to police, the deceased body was recovered on Saturday morning in Sonia Vihar region of New Delhi.
The woman has been identified as Meena Kumar and the police is on a lookout for her husband, Rakesh, who has been missing since the incident came to light, one of the officials said.
The incident came to light after the neighbours complained of foul smell emanating from the house.
"It was around 10 a.m. when one of the neighbours made the PCR call and informed the police about stench emanating from the house of the couple, which was found to be locked from outside," a police officials told PTI.
The police team rushed to the site and broke open the door and went inside the house following which they found the body stuffed inside the bedbox. According to police, the body was lying face down.
The body is said to be at least three days old and had decomposed to an extent that the victim was beyond recognition.
Police have sent the body for autopsy and have registered a case of murder in the matter. A manhunt has been launched to nab the missing husband.
Though the cause of victim's death has not been ascertained yet, the police are looking at all possible angles as the motive.
