New Delhi: Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal on Thursday slammed Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh’s remarks on Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Management (IIM) over the quality of their faculty.

Sibal quashed Ramesh’s arguments that IITs and IIMs do not match upto the standards of other top class international institutes, asserting that there should be some logic behind Jairam’s criticism.

Sibal also claimed that IIT ranks 24th among global Universities and added that the IITs were developed to create world class undergraduate students.
The crux of the controversy can be traced to the remarks of Jairam Ramesh that only the students, and not the faculty, at IITs and IIMs were world class, which stirred a debate on the issue among academicians, political leaders and students.
