New Delhi: Delhi Police have constituted a Special Investigation Team to investigate the rape of a 14-year-old Manipuri girl allegedly by her landlord`s son two days ago.

The SIT, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) BS Jaiswal, got the girl`s statement recorded before a magistrate today, police said.
The accused in the case, Ashish alias Vicky, has already been arrested.

The SIT will thoroughly investigate the case, collect scientific evidence and file a charge sheet as soon as possible, police said.

Other then Jaiswal, the teams consists of officials who had investigated the December 16 gang-rape case and filed a charge sheet in that case within a record 17 days, they said.
The Manipuri teen was allegedly raped by Vicky in Munirka area, sparking off protests in the national capital, days after the death of another youth from the Northeast in an alleged racist attack.

Vicky was arrested after an FIR was registered under various sections of the IPC for kidnapping, rape, illegal confinement, voluntarily causing grievous hurt and other offences. He was also booked under Section 3 of SC/ST Act and section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act at Vasant Vihar Police Station in South Delhi.

Police had said the incident took place on Friday night at around 10:30 PM when the victim had stepped out to buy some household items in the locality.
Vicky had accosted her in front of a pharmacy shop which is close to a hospital in the area and took her to a nearby room and raped her.

She suffered injuries on her face and her private parts in the incident. She was taken to Safdarjung Hospital where she underwent a medical examination and was treated for injuries.

The incident had triggered protests outside the police station with student groups from the northeast and Jawaharlal Nehru University blocking the road and clashing with the police following which traffic was diverted in the area.

Demonstrators had claimed there was another accomplice of the accused in the case.

The victim hails from Manipur and was living in Delhi since the last six months with her relatives.

The incident comes close to the heels of the death of Nido Taniam, a youth from Arunachal Pradesh who was purportedly beaten to death here a few days ago by some shopkeepers following a quarrel over taunts on his hairstyle.
