Sonia flags Shobha Yatra to mark Balmiki anniversary

Congress President Sonia Gandhi flagged off a Shobha Yatra to mark the birth anniversary of Maharishi Balmiki, celebrated with much fanfare in the country especially by the Dalits.

New Delhi: Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday flagged off a Shobha Yatra to mark the birth anniversary
of Maharishi Balmiki, celebrated with much fanfare in the
country especially by the Dalits.

AICC secretary and party MLA Jai Kishan led a huge
gathering at the residence of Gandhi, which celebrated the
birth anniversay of the author of Ramayana amid beating of
drums and playing of musical instruments.

Congress workers and leaders from states including Delhi,
Rajasthan, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh were
also present.

A copy of Ramayana and a picture of Maharishi Balmiki were
presented to the Congress President, who said the saint was an
apostle of the Indian culture and religion and showed the way
of real human life to the whole of universe by creating the
great epoch, an AICC release said.
