New Delhi: New Lok Sabha Secretary General T K
Viswanathan was formally introduced today by Speaker Meira
Kumar, who also appointed his predecessor P D T Achary as an
honorary officer of the House.

Viswanathan, 62, a former Secretary in the Law and Justice
Ministry, took over the post after Achary, who relinquished
office on September 30.

The Speaker said she had appointed Viswanathan in
consultation with Leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee and
Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj.

She said the new Secretary General had over 38 years of
experience in the field of law and had been associated with
drafting of several government bills, apart from assisting
various parliamentary committees.

Kumar also praised 65-year-old Achary for his "vast
knowledge of parliamentary procedures and practices" and
helping Presiding Officers and the panel of Chairmen to
conduct the proceedings in a smooth and orderly manner.

"In recognition of his services to Lok Sabha, I have great
pleasure in announcing that Achary has been appointed as
Honorary Officer of the House," she added.
