New Delhi: Protests on Tuesday rocked Amity law School in Noida over the suicide of 21-year-old BA LLB student Sushant Rohilla.

Sushant took the drastic step after being barred by the Amity administration from appearing in the exams, due to poor attendance, reports said.

The bright Law student hung himself on August 10 at his Sarojini Nagar residence.

Amity is affiliated to Guru Gobind Indraprastha University and 75 percent attendance is a must to appear in the examinations.

Rohilla family claims that Sushant's fractured leg was the reason behind his low attendance. Though, the suicide note does not give the reason of suicide, his sister, Mehak Rohilla shared an email of her brother, which he had addressed to Amity founder Dr Ashok Chauhan, requesting him not to be debarred.

Sushant's father Jagdish Kumar, a joint secretary in Rajya Sabha, has blamed college officials for his son's tragic death.

Sharing his grief on Facebook, Sushant's father wrote: “I am proud of my son. He was not a soldier of Indian defence force . But he sacrificed his life for the cause of hundreds of students of Amity Law School Delhi affiliated to IP University Delhi . My son was not a coward.. He brought accolades to the college. He was loved by all. His act of sucide was provoked by some officials of the Institute over trivial but illegal arbitrary issues. No student should ever be tortured over attendance. No student should ever be compelled to ever contemplate such step..

I will get my son justice.”

Meanwhile, noted marketing and management guru Suhel Seth, known for his straight talk, opined that HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar should investigate the ownership and conduct of Amity.

While expressing sadness over the Law student's death, Seth said, “Deeply saddened by the suicide of Sushant Rohilla an Amity student. This needs greater investigation!”
