Three arrested for Model Town robbery
New Delhi: Three persons, including two juveniles who were working as domestic helps, were arrested Monday for allegedly carrying out a robbery in a house at Model Town locality in north Delhi while the family was away.
Arun Chopal alias Arun Kumar, a resident of Madhubani in Bihar and two juvenile were arrested in the wee hours when they tried to flee at a police check post at Mukherjee Nagar, a senior police official said.
The three, after committing dacoity, were running away in a car which was also stolen but as they reached Mukherjee Nagar Baandh picket at around 5 AM, they panicked and ran after throwing a bag containing some house breaking implements, the official said.
They tried to run towards Gandhi Vihar but Chopal was caught. He tried to threaten the policemen with a knife but was overpowered.
Two others, who were later identified as juveniles, were also nabbed, said Romil Baaniya DCP North West District.
During checking, Rs 1.68 lakh in cash, a wrist watch, a diamond ring, a gold ring, a gold-diamond nose pin and a silver coin weighing about 50 gms were recovered from them, he said.
During interrogation, Chopal said that he and along with another person Shatrughan had committed dacoity in E-block Model Town after conspiring with the servants -- one Suraj and two juveniles -- who were working as cook and helpers in that house.
They had looted the house on Sunday, when house owner Suresh Kumar Gupta was out of station with family.
They burgled the house after injuring houseowner`s relative with a knife and fled in a car. They divided the booty amongst themselves and parked the car at GTB Nagar Metro Station.
Yesterday, while Suraj and Shatrughan left for Bihar, the three planned to stay back and enjoy, the official said.
