New Delhi: Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit has appealed to the central leadership of the party to take a decision quickly about her future role, following speculation that she may be the chief ministerial face of Congress in Uttar Pradesh.

"I will be ready for anything that the party asks me to do. This is my only plea that whatever decision the high command wants to take, be taken quickly. Time is running short," she was quoted as saying by News 18 on Friday.

Reactions from the veteran Congress leader came a day after media reports claimed that the former Delhi CM could play an important role in Uttar Pradesh and may be projected as the party's CM candidate.

It is believed that the master election strategist Prashant Kishore has suggested the Congress central leadership to contest the assembly elections in UP with a 'Brahmin' face, making Dikshit a serious contender. It was also reported in media that Dikshit may be made the Congress in-charge of Punjab following Kamal Nath's resignation over row on his alleged involvement in the 1984 anti-sikh riots.

Dikshit hails from Kapoorthala in Punjab and is considered close to Congress' CM face Captain Amarinder Singh.

However, in a major setback for the Congress party, the Delhi Lt Governor, Najeeb Jung, had yesterday forwarded Arvind Kejriwal government's complaint to the ACB for initiating a probe against Dikshit for her role in the water tanker scam.

Elections in both Punjab and Uttar Pradesh are due to be held in 2017.
