Traced auto driver who took missing JNU student to Jamia: Police

Delhi Police on Wednesday claimed to have traced an auto rickshaw driver who picked up missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed from the varsity campus and took him to Jamia Millia Islamia.

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Wednesday claimed to have traced an auto rickshaw driver who picked up missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed from the varsity campus and took him to Jamia Millia Islamia.

"We have traced the driver of the auto-rickshaw who Ahmed hired on October 15 from Jawaharlal Nehru University to reach the campus of Jamia Millia Islamia," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav told reporters here.

The officer however, refused the share the identity of the auto driver and said that police are questioning him. 

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, police hiked, from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh, the award money for information about the student. 

Najeeb, a first year M.Sc. Biotechonoloy student, went missing from the JNU campus on October 15 after a tiff allegedly with members of the RSS student wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.
