Two drowned in Delhi

Two teenagers drowned in the capital this afternoon in separate incidents while they were taking bath in river Yamuna after celebrating Holi.

New Delhi: Two teenagers drowned in the
capital this afternoon in separate incidents while they
were taking bath in river Yamuna after celebrating Holi.

Ajit Kumar (18), a student, drowned in the Yamuna
in Timarpur area when he went to wash off colours on his body
after the celebrations.
A resident of east Delhi`s Mandawli, Kumar had gone to
Khajuri Khas along with his elder brother Avinash to play Holi
with their friends.

"After the celebrations, he went to wash off colours
in Yamuna. He did not know how to swim and was washed away by
a current of water," a senior police official said.

His body was fished out by divers. His father is a
tailor.

In another incident, 15-year-old Vicky was drowned
near Nanaksar Gurudwara in Sonia Vihar at around 3 pm when he
was taking bath in the river.

Vicky had gone to the river to wash himself with his
friend when the incident took place. "He wanted to wash off
the colours. However, he was washed away by the current. His
friend informed us," a senior police official said.
Two divers of the Delhi Fire Department rushed to the
spot and fished out his body out after an hour, the official
said.

The body has been sent to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital
for post mortem.
