New Delhi: In a gruesome incident, two minor children were bludgeoned to death with their faces smashed by a heavy object to conceal their identity in southeast Delhi's Sangam Vihar area, police said here on Tuesday.
Five persons have been detained for the yesterday's incident but nobody has been arrested so far, they said.
The two victims, identified as Nazim (11) and Nanhe (8), both of whom were neighbours, had left to the nearby jungle at around 3:30 PM yesterday to collect firewood for the night.
Police have registered a case of kidnapping at Sangam Vihar police station after the two did not return home till late evening.
"At around 10:30 PM, bodies of both the children with their clothes unbuttoned were found in the bushes with their faces smashed to hide their identities. They were found in the jungles near a temple at Harijan Basti in Sangam Vihar's K block," said a senior police official.
Remains of a bonfire, food, syringes, and alcohol bottles were found near the spot suggesting that somebody had a party of sorts at the spot.
"We have registered a case of murder. Investigation is being conducted in all possible angles. We are waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain the cause of their deaths and whether they were sexually assaulted," the official added.
