New Delhi: The US Permanent Representative to the UN Samantha Power and US envoy to India Rahul Richard Verma met with the local sex workers at G.B. Road.
During the visit, they were accompanied by Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal.
They visited the local brothels in the area and interacted with the sex workers to understand their problems.
"The US ambassador to India and the US ambassador to UN Ms. Samantha Power had come as she wanted to understand the ground reality here. She wanted to understand what is happening in G.B road, and why is it that these women are being trafficked from all across the country and are being brought here," Maliwal told ANI.
Maliwal said Verma and Power had approached her to accompany them on the visit and explain to them the ground realities of the red light area.
"She wanted to see where do most of the sex workers go to work and she was quite horrified and shocked to see what was going on here. She also wanted to get a ground reality of what is happening and so they had requested us to visit with her," she added.
