VHP facilitates Muslim youth who tried to stop Jama Masjid attackers

VHP on Saturday felicitated Salim Ali, the rickshaw puller who tried to prevent two motor-cycle borne men from escaping after firing at tourists in Jama Masjid here last Sunday, and said more youths should follow his example.

New Delhi: Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Saturday felicitated Salim Ali, the rickshaw puller who tried to prevent two motor-cycle borne men from escaping after firing at tourists in Jama Masjid here last Sunday, and said more youths should follow his example.
"If more such youth like Salim Ali come forward to
challenge terrorists, naxals, and anti-nationals then such
elements can be wiped out. Since India is a land of the brave,
it was people`s duty to felicitate the brave," Jagatguru
Shankaracharya Vasudev Saraswati said at a special programme
held by VHP to honour Ali and his family.

Ali was given Rs 21,000 by the VHP and his wife and two
kids were also felicitated at the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, VHP vice-president O P Singhal
said, "Felicitating the brave was an age-old tradition in
India and I am happy to do the same to Ali."

Ali had thrown stones at the two motorcycle-borne
attackers who had fired and injured two Taiwanese tourists at
Jama Masjid last Sunday afternoon.
Expressing his views at the felicitation programme, Ali
said, "I do not fear anybody and neither should anybody else
fear anybody. People should come forward to challenge such
elements."
