New Delhi: In a show of power against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, expelled party MLA Vinod Kumar Binny on Sunday announced support of five other MLAs and said he will soon launch a new outfit opposing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
He also gave the Delhi government an ultimatum of 48-hour to meet his demands on issues like slashing power and water bills, women`s security which were promised by Kejriwal in the election manifesto.
The move came a week after Binny staged a hunger strike against Kejriwal at Jantar Mantar after he was expelled from the party while demanding action against State Law Minister Somnath Bharti over his midnight raid.
According to reports, Binny said that Kejriwal does not want to run the government and added that by Monday afternoon he would disclose the identity of all five MLAs supporting him.
“AAP does not want to run the government in Delhi,” Binny told a news channel.
Meanwhile, Janata Dal (United) MLA in the Delhi Assembly Shoaib Iqbal, who had joined AAP recently also gave an ultimatum of 48-hours to the AAP government and asked Arvind Kejriwal to fulfil election promises.
Before being sacked from the party, Binny had called Kejriwal a dictator and accused the party of betraying the people of Delhi by backtracking on poll promises.
After this Binny was expelled from AAP following a decision by the party`s disciplinary committee.
Binny then sat on a hunger strike, but ended hours later on the advice of veteran Gandhian Anna Hazare and the Delhi lieutenant governor.
Binny also accused Kejriwal of not holding a referendum before expelling him from the party.
"Kejriwal should have held a referendum to take a decision on me. He should have organised a public meeting in my constituency (Laxmi Nagar) before arriving at any conclusion. After becoming chief minister of Delhi, he has become a dictator and is taking all decision on his own," Binny said.
However, Binny today added that he had no intention to reduce Kejriwal`s government to a minority in the Assembly, and said it was just an attempt to expose the liars.
“No only the corrupt leaders, it is also important to expose those who are liars,” Binny said.
Notably, Binny had also threatened to sit on a dharna again if the AAP government fails to act on his demands.
Binny, MLA from Laxmi Nagar, had been criticising his party and the Delhi government for failing to fulfil the promises made in the election manifesto.
Earlier, Binny had claimed that he has support of more AAP MLAs to prove his point and expose Arvind Kejriwal`s selfish desires.
However, Binny along with the said MLAs, if at all they stick to their support and join BJP then it could be a big problem for the AAP government which will then loose its majority in spite of support from the Congress.
In the December 2013 Delhi assembly elections, the AAP won 28 seats in the 70-member house and formed the government with the outside support of the Congress that had won eight seats. Iqbal and an Independent also extended support to the AAP in the assembly. Of AAP`s 28 lawmakers, one was elected speaker and another MLA Binny was expelled for anti-party activities.
Binny, had defeated Congress` AK Walia in the Delhi assembly elections in December 2013.
