New Delhi: New Year is ushering in in the capital with some bad news. Beginning January 1, 2012 water supplied by municipal body is going to cost more for Delhiites.
The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) had decided two years ago that water charges would go up by 10 percent every year.
In view of that decision the water charges in the capital would go up by 10 percent from tomorrow. However, the DJB is not going to issue any notification regarding this as the move had been announced earlier.
As of now, consumers pay for water consumption according to three different slabs. For consumption upto 10 kilolitres per month, consumers pay a charge of Rs 2.20 per kilolitre plus a surcharge of Rs 55. For consumption between 10-20 kilolitres, consumers shell out Rs 3.30 per kilolitre plus a surcharge of Rs 110. In the third slab, consumers pay Rs 16.50 per kilolitre for consumption between 20-30 kilolitres. The third slab attracts a surcharge of Rs 165.
The consumers in Delhi would also feel the pinch in February when power discoms would recover from them the fuel surcharge for October-December paid to electricity generation firms. The February 2012 bill is expected to see a jump of 30 paise to Re 1 in per unit cost.
