Arunachal to launch `Green Mission`

Arunachal Pradesh government is all set to launch a project on Tea and Rubber cultivation under `Green Arunachal Mission` for providing sustainable income to unemployed youths of the state.

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh government is all set to launch a project on Tea and Rubber cultivation under `Green Arunachal Mission` for providing sustainable income to unemployed youths of the state.
Under this Mission, it is proposed to provide financial assistance to tea farmers in order to convert traditional Jhum cultivation into commercially more sustainable plantation crops like tea, rubber besides agri-horti cultivation in the state, Parliamentary Secretary for Trade & Commerce, Phosum Khimhun said here yesterday.

In a bid to take forward the endeavour of the government on tea movement in the state, Khimhun flagged off the second batch of six youths for attending a one-month training programme on tea cultivation at Tea Research Association (TRA) Tocklai in Assam`s Jorhat district beginning tomorrow.

The team will be trained on various scientific techniques of tea cultivation for taking up tea cultivation on their own and will also disseminate and share their experiences with their fellow tea farmers in their respective areas, official sources informed.

Khimhun expressed happiness over the department’s untiring efforts to accelerate the tea movement in the state and said that the training programme of tea farmers and the recent successful launch of a Pilot Project for `Sharing a cup of Tea Mission` at Pasighat in East Siang district would go a long way to supplement its initiative.

The parliamentary secretary called upon the trainee farmers to come up with successful completion of the training at TRA to convert Arunachal Pradesh into a major tea growing State.
