Moving clocks forward could reduce CO2 emissions London: A new study has revealed that keeping the clocks one hour ahead of time would save half a million tonnes of carbon dioxide every year.

A study at the Cambridge University has revealed that moving the clocks one hour ahead of the GMT during winters could save hundreds of thousands of tonnes of carbon dioxide by making evenings lighter and reducing electricity demand.

Cutting carbon emissions by 450,000 tonnes would be equal of taking 200,000 cars off Britain''s roads, the researchers said.

"The carbon savings associated with this clock change are equivalent to the carbon footprint of the production of 1,800 plastic bags for every home in Britain every year," the Scotsman quoted Dr Elizabeth Garnsey, of Cambridge University, who directed the study, as saying.
