Nitish calls for awareness campaign for protection of dolphin Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today expressed concern at the dwindling number of dolphins in river Ganga due to pollution and fishing and said an awareness campaign was going on among people to protect the national aquatic animal.

The Centre and the state government has prepared comprehensive plans to protect Ganga flowing through Bihar and other states, besides launching an awareness campaign among the people for protection of the animal, he told reporters here.

Various plans for protection of dolphins will be deemed as successful only if it helped in raising the population of the fresh water animal, Kumar said.

The Chief Minister said that the National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) too has been working for conservation and protection of dolphins and it was imperative that the pollution in water of the holy river should be prevented.

"We all are aware about the state of pollution in the water of river Ganga," he said and urged for collective effort in this regard.
