Peacocks in Nashik district died due to sunstroke

The 13 peacocks which were found dead near here two days ago had succumbed to sunstroke, a Forest Department officer said Saturday.

Nashik: The 13 peacocks which were found dead near here two days ago had succumbed to sunstroke, a Forest Department officer said Saturday.

The cause of their death was revealed in the post- mortem conducted on their carcasses, found in drought-prone Nandgaon taluka of Nashik district on Thursday morning, B R Dhakare, Range Forest Officer, told PTI.

After the deaths and in view of the rising temperatures, the Forest Department will make arrangement for water for the birds in the area, he said.

There are nearly 200 peacocks in that area, but there are no proper arrangements for their care, former Zilla Parishad member Rajendra Pawar said.
