Patna: Use of plastic bags inside Sanjay Gandhi Zoological park here would be banned from June 5 to make the place a eco friendly one, a high level meeting chaired by Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi decided Thursday.
Visitors can buy eco-friendly bags at the counter at the zoo, where efforts would be made to attract more tourists, official sources said.
Modi said under the exchange programme with Assam, Bhuabneswar and Tripura zoos a couple of chimpanzees would be brought from Nandan Kanan zoo in exchange of a giraffe after the improvement in the prevailing sweltering heat conditions.
Besides, three fountains would be made operational in the old lake of the zoo within a month and ten new boards would be purchased within a month, Modi said adding the number of seating chairs would also be increased and an attractive brochure would be prepared for visitors to help them know about the animals in the zoo here.
It was also decided at the meeting to constitute rescue teams to protect people from wild like animals which move out of the forest area.
The state forest and environment department principal secretary Dipak Kumar Singh, principal chief forest conservator B A Khan and chief life warden D K Shukla also attended the meeting.
