New Delhi: The government will work out a policy initiative for cleaning the Ganga river and other important water bodies of the country, union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti said Wednesday.
The Ganga has been known for its religious importance and many civilisations have flourished on its banks, Bharti said after taking charge of her ministry.
"Efforts will be made to make it clean and as pious as it was in the past," she said.
"The government will work out a policy initiative for the rejuvenation of the Ganga as well as the cleaning of other important rivers in the country," she said.
The water resources ministry has been renamed as the ministry for water resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation.
