Hazaribagh (Jharkhand): Migratory birds who generally visit the famous Charowa dam here every year during winter have not yet turned up.
Siberian ducks and other birds migrate to Hazaribagh by October and stay till February but have still not arrived as the Charowa dam has insufficient water following two successive droughts, Convenor of Neo Human Centre, Satya Prakash said here Friday.
"The Charowa dam reservoir having long catchment areas attracts nearly 8000 migratory birds, some even rare species, every year, and they make it their temporary abode as the
place suits them this period of time," Prakash, who monitors preservation of wildlife and endangered birds in the Lakes and Reservoirs in Hazaribagh said.
Besides the Charowa dam, more than a lakh migratory birds came last year to other reservoirs and ponds around Hazaribagh district, he said, adding that many tourists visit the dam during this time just to watch the birds from Siberia.
Jharkhand government has announced the entire state as drought-hit for the second time in two years.
