Tuticorin: To mark environment day, Sterlite Copper planted 15000 tree saplings inside the company premises here today, a top official said.
P Ramnath, Chief Executive Officer of the company, who spoke on the occasion, stressed the importance of increasing the green cover to reduce the impact of global warming and preserving ecological balance.
Pankaj, Associate Vice President (Operations) in his keynote address said the initiatives intended to protect the environment should be integrated into everyday life and not be confined to a single day.
As part of the celebrations, 15,000 saplings were planted in 45 acres inside the plant, a company press release said.
Sterlite employees also participated in this massive green belt development activity to show their commitment towards environmental protection and conservation.
A Sumathi, Head (Health, Safety and Environment) said planting of saplings was essential from the point of view of economic development and environment protection.
P Subbiah, Head- Environment, was also present during the event, it said.
