Erode: Pug mark of tigers and leopards have been noticed by forest personnel and students conducting the wild animal census in Sathymangalam and Erode forest divisions in the district for the past six days.
Forest department formed 48 teams and and enumerated tigers, elephants, leopards, wild boar, spotted deer, sambar deer and black buck (Deer).
Officials said when they conducted census in Kattu Bannari, Thengumarahatta and Karuvanrayan temple area, they noticed the movement of tigers. The team also noticed the pug mark of tigers in many places.
Pug mark of panthers were also noticed.
They also found the movements of herds of elephants in many places in Sathyamangalam forest division.
The census was completed by 6 pm on Sunday.
Some officials said there were already 25 tigers in the forest areas and now it might have increased to 35 to 40.
Similarly the population of elephants and leopards has also increased, as they have prevented organised poaching in the forest area, officials added.
