Yavatmal (Maha): Two persons have been arrested for allegedly poisoning a leopard in a forested area near Borjai village in Darwha tehsil, forest official said.

The arrested duo-- Maroti Sitaram Auskar and Ganesh Mahadev Khadke-- was produced in a local court today, which remanded them in police custody till February 13, Chief Conservator of Forests (CCF) of Yavatmal Vasant Gurme said.

According to the official, the carcass of the leopard was found yesterday in the Darwha jungle region.

"The accused confessed to the crime before the forest officials stating that they had poisoned the feline as it had killed their cattle," Gurme said.

The spot panchnama (crime site inspection) and post-mortem of the animal was conducted and the viscera was sent for lab test, he added.

Last month two full-grown leopards were found dead in the Darwha Forest Region and the forest officials are still clueless about the cause of their death.
