Harare: The wildlife authorities in Zimbabwe on Sunday confirmed that a lion named Jericho is still alive and dismissed the report of his death. Jerico was a companion of Cecil, a well-known lion who was killed by an American hunter in early July.
A picture of the lion, Jerico was released by the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority, saying that it was taken on Sunday morning.
According to AP reports, Brent Stapelkamp, who is following Jericho's movements with the help of a satellite collar on the lion said in a statement that the lion, Jerico is still alive and he's being monitored.
He further said that Cecil and Jericho oversaw two prides together.
The statement from the wildlife authority said the two lions were partners in a "coalition" but were not related, report suggest.
Earlier, Facebook page of a group called the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force said on Saturday that Jericho was killed.
The Zimbabwe authorities has called the killing of Cecil, the well-known lion an illegal hunt. Cecil's killing has sparked an international outcry.
