New Delhi: Delhi government's scheme of
selling wheat flour at subsidised rates has drawn huge
response as over 11.48 lakh bags of 10-kg packets were sold in
just over one month across the city.
Officials in the food and civil supplies department
said government had opened additional 191 outlets in the city
in the last couple of weeks following increasing demand for
the commodity.
Initially, subsidised wheat flour was sold in 137
outlets across the city. A 10 kg packet of wheat flour costs
Rs 139 in the special outlets as against the market rate of Rs
180 to Rs 200. The scheme was launched in the later half of
November.
The decision to sell the commodity at subsidised rate
was taken after its price soared significantly in the open
market. The Centre had given Delhi government 80,000 tonnes of
wheat at Rs 1,080 per quintal for the purpose.
The government is also running a scheme to sell five
most consumed pulses at subsidised rates at Mother Dairy
outlets.
