Mumbai: Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone (MPSEZ) has received a letter of intent from Hazira Port (HPPL) to develop the non-LNG port facilities at Hazira.
The port, once developed, will be the only common-user deep-draft port facility in the region, a press release issued here said.
The construction work will commence as soon as all the statutory approvals are in place. The overall master plan of the port provides for thirteen berths, to be developed in a
phased manner, commencing with three to four berths for container, liquid and dry bulk in the first phase, the release added.
In addition to Hazira, the company is also setting up cargo terminals at Dahej, Gujarat, and Mormugoa, Goa. The company is looking for port development opportunities on the
eastern coast of India as well as south-east Asia and Africa.
HPPL, a joint venture between Shell Gas and Total Gaz Electricite Holdings, France, built the Hazira Port consequent to a concession granted to it by the Gujarat Maritime Board and Government of Gujarat in April 2002.
