New Delhi: Private trade has exported 16,584
tonnes of wheat and wheat products in 2009 till September, the
government today informed Lok Sabha.
"16,584 tonnes of wheat and wheat products have been
exported on private account from January 2009 to September
2009," Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public
Distribution, K V Thomas said in a written reply.
However, he said there has been no export of wheat and
wheat products from the central pool during the said period.
Thomas added that the government has banned export of
wheat by private trade.
However, he said the government in July allowed private
traders to export wheat flour (maida), samolina (rava/sirgi),
wholemeal atta and resultant atta till March 2010, subject to
a limit of 6.5 lakh tonnes.
The Centre has procured a record 25.3 million tonnes of
wheat this year in on the back of record production of 80.58
