New Delhi: An eco-friendly textile park to be opened on Wednesday in Surat will provide employment to 25,000 people besides producing products worth Rs 850 crore annually.
The park has been set up at a cost of Rs 129 crore.
The Gujarat Eco Textile Park, setup under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) will attract an investment of Rs 705 crore, the Textiles Ministry said in a statement today.
The park, to be inaugurated by textiles minister
Dayanidhi Maran, is expected to facilitate textile units to
meet international environment and social standards.
Under SITP, the government provides up to 40 per cent of
the project cost as grant subject to a ceiling of Rs 40 crore.
Thirty nine textile parks are being set up throughout the
country under the scheme. A textile park normally has about 50
units, however the number may vary depending on the
investment.
The Rs 3,00,000 crore industry provides employment to
about 35 million people.
