Bhubaneswar: Even as many mega steel
plant projects including those of world's largest steel maker
ArcelorMittal and Posco hang in balance in Orissa, the Vedanta
group today envinced interest to venture into steel sector by
proposing to set up a steel plant in the state.
This was revealed by group's chairman Anil Agarwal
after meeting Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here tonight.
"We have already decided to take Larsen & Turbo as
partner for the proposed steel project in Orissa," Agarwal
told reporters adding a tripatite agreement would soon be
signed in this regard.
Stating that the detailed project report was yet to be
prepared, Agarwal did not provide any detail of the proposed
steel project.
Patnaik also confirmed that they had a talk on the
proposed steel project in a joint venture.
Though Vedanta claimed to have already invested Rs
39,000 crore in the state on its aluminium refinery, smelter,
university and other projects, it would be the company's first
venture in the steel sector.
