New Delhi: Admissions to the prestigious Delhi University (DU) began on Wednesday as the campus unrolls a new four-year format for its undergraduate courses.

According to reports, the admissions in the DU began amid protests by students and faculty members over converting the three-year graduate programme into a four-year course.

As the campus remains divided over the course, confusion among students prevails.
Most colleges said they expect the cut-off percentage to rise this year.

Hindu College principal Pradyumn Kumar was quoted as saying, "The cut-off percentages in the first list are expected to be higher than last year, especially for popular courses like Economics, Commerce, Physics, Chemistry and English. Some North Campus colleges might fill seats after the first list. Off-campus colleges will have second and third cut-off lists."

“Students applying to courses like Economics and Commerce can expect the first cut-off percentage to be around 96 to 98 per cent. In Science courses, it will be above 95 per cent,” Kumar said.
In 2012, the first cut-off percentage for B.Com (Honours) at Hindu College was 96.25 to 99.25 per cent as opposed to 95.5 to 99 per cent in 2011. Economics (H) at the college required 95.75 to 99.25 per cent in 2012 as opposed to 95.5 to 98.5 in 2011.

Given that colleges have been instructed to admit all students who make the cut-off, leading to over-admission, Shri Ram College of Commerce had requested DU to look at alternative ways of admission to limit the student intake.
