NEET has been scrapped. We are back to AIPMT. But worry not, the two tests have a lot in common and very few differences, observes Aakash Chaudhry.
First the similarities:
There is no official clarity as yet regarding negative marking in AIPMT-2014. Since there is a similarity in the pattern of both the tests, the preparation strategy should also be the same.
Now the difference:
1. AIPMT will be conducted only for the 15 per cent national quota in government medical/dental colleges all over India, except in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. State Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) will conduct its own test. Earlier, NEET was the only gateway to all seats in all the medical colleges.
2. NEET aspirants had to give only one paper for all colleges. In case of AIPMT, they will have to go through multiple exams for multiple colleges.
Moving on to the subjects, this week we give you a low down on Biology. So tune in for some handy tips to boost your confidence.
1. Lay special emphasis on diagrams, as questions relating to diagrams are often asked.
2. You should be aware of the weightage given to each portion of the syllabus and revise accordingly, especially pay attention to the XI standard portion. Practice as many questions as possible after you complete each topic. Refer to the questions asked in previous exams for that insight into a topic.
3 Adapt a learning style that suits you- whether visual, auditory or tactile. Visual devices include drawing, pictures, charts, maps, graphs etc to supplement your learning. Use bright markers and symbols to point out important notes. This helps during revision. Students are known to retain knowledge gained better when they can associate an image or demonstration referring to it. Auditory techniques include reading aloud in a silent place, making tutors or friends a sounding board to your understanding of concepts, use of mnemonics or music, verbal discussion of ideas etc. to support revision.
Prepare a summary list of important facts of every chapter and keep on revising the list regularly. This will help since the exam is of the objective type.
Reading is important but revision is even more crucial. So have fortnightly revision program. Revision tests can be helpful. Try to attempt a few tests in an exam like environment. This will help in time management.
