New Delhi: The Government formally announces a plan to make New Zealand predator-fee by 2050, adopting a plan to eradicate all non-native pests that are responsible for the death of country's native birds.
According to BBC, the Prime Minister John Key said that the predators kill 25 million native birds each year, and getting rid of them will be "the most ambitious conservation project attempted anywhere in the world".
The NZ $28 million project will kick start from next year and a new company, Predator Free New Zealand Ltd, is taking the responsibility to wipe out the predators that cause maximum damage to the country's economy and environment.
To achieve this target, the government is investing in better pest control methods, supporting scientific research and modern technologies and working with local communities that will play a vital role in protecting New Zealand's critically endangered species of birds and animals.
The officials said that this long term project will not only remove the major threat to their indigenous wildlife but will also open new opportunities of regional development and enhance trade and tourism
