Cinema by the beach catches up in the Gulf Dubai: First it was Abu Dhabi and now Qatar. The joy of watching cinema on open beaches is fast catching up with the denizens in the Gulf.

During the Doha Tribeca Film Festival (DTFF), being held in Qatar's capital city of Doha, Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding and The Namesake will be screened alongside a host of classic movies, all under the stars – for free.

DTFF will be screening eight movies each during the four day festival beginning October 29, at a variety of venues, including a beach transformed into an outdoor cinema.

A special screening of the Egyptian classic, The Mummy, recently restored by Martin Scorsese’s World Cinema Foundation, will be held here.

As a part of its 'Opening Night' festivities, DTFF will host a special screening of Amelia, the new Mira Nair film on the grounds of the Museum of Islamic Art.

"We're thrilled to be able to offer the community not one, not two, but eight opportunities to see amazing films for free," Amanda Palmer, Executive Director DTFF said.

On each night of the Festival, we hope to create an unforgettable, truly accessible movie-going experience at some of Doha's most scenic locales, the director added.

On the final night of DTFF on November 1, there will be a free, open-air screening of a surprise, top-secret film on the grounds of the Museum of Islamic Art.
