Is Anna heading for ‘footnotes’?

The relative ease with which Anna Hazare has taken the plunge into the campaign against the Congress, he has, wittingly or otherwise, tried to enter into a proscenium of murkier complexities which the man from Ralegaon Siddhi can hardly afford to get along with. No doubt his recent sloganeering for vigilantism has to some extent enriched the essence of democratic awareness but, the way he has thrown his hat into the electoral politics might drift his unique mission against corruption away from its goal. And, in fact, it has already done so.

For an anti-corruption crusader who enjoyed the centrestage for over two months, his avowed intentions should not have been allowed to be blended with politics which Anna now does by taking sides and trying to separate one party from the other, i.e. the BJP. Whereas, his mission should have been to launch a campaign against the corrupt political system, and leave the rest for the people to decide. But, he has tried to play the role of a political bagpiper. By targeting the Congress alone, not only has he gone political but by doing so, he has run the risk of engulfing his entire support base and his supporters in a kind of storm which can sweep the movement into disarray.

Never mind what the uninformed or informed critics, in the recent past, said about him, but his silent sojourn in his village was more powerful than his recent decision to campaign. Despite his lack of erudition and academic depth, the little man from Maharashtra had become a feature for the intellectual pantheon comprising of journalists, social activists and intellectuals. While considering him and his movement an interesting topic, the intelligentsia, of course, showed the grudging willingness to grant him an iconic status. And for a beleaguered ruling establishment at the Centre, Anna still remains an enigma. But his recent feat of getting into campaigning was a kind of self-inflicted eroding act that might leave a lasting blot on his halo.

If media reports are anything to go by, there are some differences within the Anna camp, which would obviously be a disgusting piece of news for the electorate that has already become very cynical. And now, in this newfound political role, Anna has pushed himself to the centre of an extremely controversial platform based purely on politics. In other words, he is trying to breach the moral territory he himself had drawn.

On one side Anna said that unless the UPA passes the Jan Lokpal Bill in the Winter Session of Parliament, he would again raise the banner of protest, and at the same time, he is in a haste to jump into the mess of political bandwagon donning the garb of a father to an errant child. Further, his penchant for sounding deadlines has somehow not augured well with his image.

His campaign at Hisar has squarely hampered the assumption about his second preparedness to fight out the menace of corruption and his goodwill is in danger of being perceived as bit overrated and stunted. Anna knows that corruption is not merely limited to the Congress or its allies. It is not fair for either Anna or his followers to be engulfed in issues like to vote for whom. Given the image he had earned and the frenzied mass support during his Ramlila Maidan 'anshan', it is inconceivable that the same people are now acting like a campaign brigade singling out one party.

It is an undisputable fact that the UPA has lost its moral legitimacy to claim itself as a clean government after exposures of huge embezzlements, be it 2G or CWG or Adarsh and so on, but that has not obliterated its political legitimacy.

In offering moral assistance to one section of the political spectrum, while he is exercising the inalienable right of any other political activist, Anna is losing out as a crusader against corruption by upholding Jan Lokpal Bill as the only panacea to stem the rot. He is putting the full weight of his hard-earned reputation behind one accused and against the other.

It clearly suggests that a wholesome fighter against corruption no longer needs to maintain a healthy detachment between unbiased crusade and political mentoring. It shows his willingness to swim against the tide of a mass-based consensus that had distinguished his fight from others in the recent past. If Anna is picking the wrong option out of personal choice or out of over-enthusiasm for a further bigger image, there is a fear that his movement may get confined to the footnotes.

Shib - Hisar
Apropos the view given by Mr.J.D.Sharma from Patna, I would say, now it has become a fashion to call any journalist in pay-roll or being sponsored. Journalists are also like us, human beings. But we have developed a tendency to accuse them as agents od someone or the other. Yet we all in the time of any personal crisis look up the journalists and lets not ignore their service. In this article by Mr.Singh, the author has simply made as asessment, albeit a hypothetical one, that the road Anna has chosen through Hisar should not have been his cup of tea because Anna enjoyed an image much larger than the politicians. Now that is the talk everywhere . Every Anna supporter in his mind has the question why Anna came down to campaign mode and calling ` no vote for Cong. ` , as if rest all spotless guys in the polls of Hisar. Now he has to set his house back in order. Justice Hegde may not be long with him, so also Prashant Bhushan. Instaed of campaigning Anna rather should tour the States to regain his momentum. Better we Anna followers not be fanatics of sort.

First reading of article suggest that author may not be having independent view, news these days are mostly sponsored, and this article also seems to have political blessings,my personal view is that politicians have lost credibility and soon jornalists will also lose credibility even though every body is having his right of opinion in the same way every body is having right to be political.as a journalist you cant dicide who should be in politics. UPA has lost its mandate and should take the fresh mandate, otherwise also the elections are best economic stimulas.

Now justice Santosh Hegde says that Anna should not have been in a haste to take part in Hisar poll without waiting for the winter session of Parliament. Anna is totally silent on corruption by the BJP, see K.taka former CM taken to jail. Yes, Annaji has committed a tactical error and youths like me who were at the Ramlila maidan for days together, we are not happy by Anna`s decision on Hisar. His charishma really suffered .The article by DNsingh is a correct analysis and each of its prediction is now proving right..

The article is totally unwarranted and misconceived. Anna has not thrown his hat into the electoral politics but has only moved on the path to achieve his immediate goal of getting enacted the Jan lokpal bill. It is coincidence that Congress is ruling the country, hence only this party is responsible to get any legislation enacted. The call not to vote for Congress is only logical. Anna could have been charged for throwing his hat into the electoral politics, had he asked the electorate to vote for any other political party, which he has not done.

Govt just playing politics. They are not sincer about Jan Lok pal. Rahul Gandhi says he is game changer. But Anna is not so. He just wants Lokpal for Amm Admi. There is no question of playing game for social Cause. It is mr Gandhi Playing .But Mr. Gandhi should realise that Ann is pre decided winner ( by Indian publci) in this game. He has no thing to loose. But every things to win.

Congress has taken Voters for granted. They think after dividing in the name of Religion and Caste, they can win even after they do Corruptions. But Indians are Qualified and Intelligent as projected worldwide. Congress Failed to Divide Indians in the name of Religion and Caste against ANNA HAZARE. Now Congress must take step back and ask Forgiveness from Team Anna and say Sorry to all Indians and Support The Jan Lokpal Bill. If Congress Passes The Jan Lokpal Bill, they can regain the lost confidence among their Voters.

Anna should campaign but in polls and against any party.Rather he should have toured the States and campaign against corruption be it a congress ruled or non-congress ruled. Evidence of corruption by many states`s governments are plenty. People know but Anna matters. Look at Karnataka, UP, Goa & Orissa, all deep in mining loot. They all deserve the radar of Anna and his ideology. Corruption has been in our society since long long time but the Congress regimes made it institutionalised. Like America bred terrorism and now facing the music . I would say it is a good piece of article.

Actually, it`s gonna be a super but pleasant surprise If Anna turns out to be a BJP mole. But alas, he is not. And thats the main reason why I dont support Anna`s movement. For me Congress and its cohorts (read UPA) are not only corroupt but utterly anti-Hindu.Anna`s anti-corruption call is welcome but he should distance himself from the dubious elements who even find fault with the picture of Holy Bharat Mata? Anna must not get into the pseudo-secular/ Missionary NGO trap.He should openly collaborate with BJP to oust Congress.

Tell a lie thousand times and it will become the truth. that is what these paid news journalists are trying to do to malign anna and his campaign. Anna is is just the messenger his campaign should be the focus instead of Anna himself. Focus on the issue if you have any ethics left and leave the man (now an inspiration of millions) alone to guide people.

The content is OK. But I would suggest you to watch Arvind Kejriwal`s yesterday show with NDTV. Though I am a congress supporter, he has briefed the issues quite clearly and India certainly urges a change in the constitution so as to follow with other countries, Arvind discussed lots of issues and loopholes related to the current system relative to the other countries and I think people should watch that video as well to get an idea of the entire story rather than cribbing Congress, BJP, Anna whatever.

There was no option for Anna other than using the method he is using to ask/request Congress to pass anti coruption bill. This article seems to be from a congress supporter journalist
