Chandigarh: Haryana today announced the highest
ever sugarcane prices for its farmers for the season 2009-10
and 2010-11 (October-September).
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced
State Advised Price (SAP) for 2009-10 at Rs.185 per quintal
for early varieties, Rs.180 for mid varieties and Rs.175 per
quintal for late maturing varieties. He also announced the
cane price for the year 2010-11 which would be Rs.210, Rs.205
and Rs.200 per quintal for early, mid and late varieties
respectively.
The new SAP of Haryana is also more than the cane
prices announced by its neighbouring state of Punjab which
had declared SAP of Rs.180, Rs.175 and Rs.170 per quintal for
the crushing season of 2009-10 and rates of Rs.200, Rs.195
and Rs.190 per quintal for season of 2010-11.
The Chief Minister, who was presiding over a meeting of
the Sugarcane Control Board here, said that the price of
sugarcane for the year 2009-10 has been increased by Rs.15 per
quintal as compared to that of the year 2008-09. Also, the
price of sugarcane for the year 2010-11 is higher by Rs.25 per
quintal as compared to that of 2009-10, said an official
release here.
Hooda said that the State Government had always safeguarded
the interests of the farming community and they had been
given remunerative price for their produce. He also urged the
sugarmills in the State to find ways and means to ensure
remunerative price to the farmers.
