Football tournament for peace in border areas Kohima: In an attempt to pursuing peace and tranquility in the Assam-Nagaland border areas, specifically in Sibsagar-Jorhat-Mokokchung sector, a fraternity football tournament was organized where thousands of spectators from both the states witnessed the final match between Sporting Club, Tuli versus Sivasagar XI.

The Trans-Border Running Football Tournament, began on June 28 and ended yesterday, was organized by Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland) at Athkhel playground of Geleki in Sibsagar district bordering Tuli area of Mokokchung district.

At the outset of the tie, a cultural extravaganza was held where Tuli MLA Temjen Jamir reminded the people about the age-old relationship between the Nagas and the Assamese people and called upon all to further strengthen this bond and fraternity for maintenance of peace and tranquility in border areas.

He also appreciated various initiatives undertaken by the Border Peace Committee for developing better understanding among the people living in both sides of the inter-state border and Sibsagar district administration for making the tournament a grand success.

Nazira MLA Debabrata Saikia, son of former Assam chief minister Hiteswar Saikia, who formally inaugurated the final match yesterday, hoped that this event would go a long way for the people of Assam and Nagaland for ushering in mutual trust and peace.
