JCT colts win U-19 I-League Kolkata: Their club might have disbanded its senior side but the JCT colts set an example by winning the under-19 I-League after holding East Bengal to a goal-less draw on Saturday.

Playing in damp condition, the boys from Phagwara adapted quickly and managed to secure a draw, thanks to lack of discretion on East Bengal's part, who needed a victory to topple JCT from the perch.

While JCT adapted a defensive approach, East Bengal, playing at home, could not make use of the easy chances.

At least five sitters went begging and Pankan Moula and Nabin Hela's misses did not help the cause either.

The draw ensured that JCT finished atop the table in the final phase on basis of a better goal difference.

Both teams had seven points with two wins each, but JCT's goal difference was five against East Bengal's three.

Giving credit to the boys, JCT coach Jagir Singh said they have proved a point in times of adversity.

"I will request (JCT boss) Samir Thapar to at least look after the boys as they have shown that they are capable to go further. JCT can still win despite the shocking news of the seniors side. We are really happy," he said.

"The disbanding news was shocking. But I just hope that the success by the boys open a new vista for revival of the senior side of JCT," added Singh.

In another match, Mumbai FC thrashed Churchill Brothers 4-1 for a third-place finish with three points.

The Goans failed to open their tally and finished at the bottom in the final phase.
