Margao: Buoyed by their empathic win over
Salgaocar, Sporting Clube de Goa is looking to score their
third win to keep their hopes of avoiding relegation alive
when they take on depleted JCT tomorrow in the 20th round of
the I-league, played at Nehru Stadium in Margao.
Sporting registered their second win of the campaign
when they beat Salgaocar in the last round to score their
first win in Goa which moved them within six points off
safety.
They now need to play consistently to win matches in
order to avoid relegation. The Goan club has been in some
decent form with just one defeat in their last six matches. If
they continue to maintain the same form, there is all
possibility for them to avoid relegation.
One player who has played a vital role in their
improvement is young Adil Khan. Adil khan played the pivitol
role in the midfield and had his hand in scoring goals in both
their wins. Their strikers who have let them down in previous
matches are also looking more sharper as seen in the last
match.
"We have a chance to avoid relegation if we continue
to play the same way as we play against Salgaocar. The
strikers at last have found their scoring touch and if they
continue to score goals when chances come we have a good
chance to win more matches," Sporting coach Vishwas Gaonkar.
On the other hand, JCT who are placed nineth with 22
points, eight points above bottom place Sporting, went down
0-6 at the hands of Churchill Brothers to suffer their seventh
and overall the biggest defeat of this season.
The club from Ludhiana are only two points above the
drop zone so they do need something out of this.
The Flaming Oranje are still rock bottom but they have
only lost one out of their last six. JCT don't travel well as
they have just two wins out of nine so coach Parminder Singh
will be a worried man.
JCT won by two goals in Ludhiana and now need to pull
up their socks and play collective game to win tomorrow as
Sporting will take advantage of their poor away record to get
all the three points.
