Panaji: The first round match between Sporting Cube de Goa and Air-India, which was rescheduled for February 14 due to heavy rain, has now been postponed to February 15 due to security reasons.
Since Goa is celebrating its traditional Carnival on February 14, Police has informed the Goa Football Association (GFA) that they would not be able to provide enough security at the Nehru Stadium, on that day.
The GFA then wrote a letter to the All India Football Federation in this regard who had no option and postponed the match to February on 15, GFA Secretary Savio Messais stated.
Security at Nehru Stadium has come under sharp criticism, after a Sporting Clube de Goa fan sneak through and attacked referee A Arjunan just outside the dressing room. The supporter was later caught by the match officials and handed over to the police.
