Kolkata: Mohun Bagan today appointed veteran coach Subhas Bhowmick as their technical director to take charge of the side after the resignation of Stanly Rozario.
In a statement, the club's general secretary Anjan Mitra said, "Bhowmick has been appointed as the technical director of the team."
The appointment comes less than 24 hours after Rozario's
exit as the green-and-maroon brigade informed the media that
the team would practice under Bhowmick this afternoon.
Rozario had put in his papers after Mohun Bagan lost 0-2
to Churchill Brothers in Goa preceded by a draw and a defeat.
So far this season, the famed side also thrice lost to
their bitter rivals East Bengal to finish as runners-up in
the Federation Cup, Mohammedan Sporting Platinum Jubilee Cup
and the Calcutta Football League (Premier Division).
The former East Bengal coach will look to revive Mohun
Bagan's sagging fortunes.
Incidentally, in the drama of changing coaches, it was
the veteran Bhowmick who was roped in as East Bengal coach
after the club think-tank sacked Rozario following their
semi-final defeat in Federation Cup in the 2008-09 season.
But the red-and-gold camp did not get the desire success
under Bhowmick only to replace him with Belgian Philippe de
Ridder last season.
A dashing forward of the 1960s and 1970s, Bhowmick's
coaching claim to fame was in early 2000 when he was
instrumental in East Bengal's memorable Asean Cup triumph
(2003), besides back-to-back National Football League titles
(2000-01, 2002-03, 2003-04).
