Kozhikode: Viva Kerala settled for a 1-1 draw
against Salgaocar Sporting Club, Goa in their first third leg
home ground encounter of the ONGC I-league football match here
today.
Desperate for a win, the Salgaocar team struck first as
Viva Kerala goal keeper Sharath K failed to grab the ball
pushed by Goan striker Ekene M Ikenva in the 14th minute.
Sharath who managed to hold the ball in front of the
goal mouth proved unlucky when the ball slipped out his hands.
As he tried snatch it again, the ball got pushed further into
the fence much to the shock of the sparse home crowd at the
Corporation Stadium grounds here.
The equaliser for the home team came as Viva captain
Sakeer M P struck a neat goal in the 54th minute.
Viva team then launched an offensive but they failed to
convert their chances and had to settle for the draw.
In their next match, Viva Kerala will take on Dempo
Sporting Club, Goa here on March 8.
The I-league match scheduled to have been played under
floodlights had to be rescheduled to 1600 hours as "snags" in
the lighting system forced the officials to defer the game
twice on previous occasions.
